Technical Product Owner/Tech Lead

DESCRIPTION:

You may have heard people say that becoming a mother is one of the best and most blissful times in a person’s life. But, if you are a mother, or are close to someone who recently became one, you may have a different perspective. While being a mother can be a rewarding experience, at times, many others struggle with the overwhelming demands of caring for a newborn, child, or teenager. Mothers often sacrifice everything for their children; an unspoken expectation learned through their own perceptions and societal pressures.

Mothers are reporting feelings of anxiety and burnout at an alarming rate, even more so with the added stresses of the pandemic felt by families worldwide. Mindful Mamas is on a mission to change the way people think about motherhood. We are developing a product to better support mothers in their mental and emotional health, and are committed to making an impact on maternal wellbeing. We are a female-founded company focused on helping families thrive through trauma-informed, evidence-based tools.

We are looking for a strong technical lead or technical product owner who is passionate about our vision and welcomes technical strategy, planning, and project execution. The primary focus will be to assist the product lead in identifying technical requirements and manage technical aspects of the product development.

As a technical product owner, you will own the component or feature in development and be responsible for maximizing its value. You will also manage all technical aspects of the development process. You will act as a bridge between the product lead and the development team by assisting the product lead as well as directing the development team.

You will own and drive the technical aspects of the product backlog. This role encompasses working with the company Product Lead and managing dependencies across the company and external stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of product increments. You will be a key member in helping to shape our platform and processes as we continue to grow.

You will be working with our candid and collaborative team, where your knowledge and advice about application architecture and the new technologies will be highly appreciated. You’ll also assist the team in delivering a product with solid performance and an excellent user experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Job functions include but are not limited to:

  • Act as the technical resource for the product manager and scrum team members

  • Understand customer needs

  • Decode the technical requirements and work with the product lead to add them to the backlog

  • Ensure stories are incorporated as expected

  • Bring technical knowledge into strategic conversations about the product

  • A complete understanding of technical aspects and capabilities of the product

  • Work with product lead and assist in technical planning

  • Work with product and development team to research requirements

  • Work with product and development team to spec features

  • Act as a technical advisor to the product lead and stakeholders

  • Assist and advise the product lead on key technical decisions

  • Involved in sprint planning and clear all technical confusions

  • Help to identify what goes into sprint and what does not

  • Facilitate shortening of development lifecycle/time to market

  • Assist product lead in defining, managing, and building technical stories

  • Assist in stories related to technical debt

  • Help to translate technical language and explain possibilities and limitations to
    stakeholders when necessary

  • Regular inspection of the sprint to ensure everything is going as expected, taking corrective actions to avoid deviation, and assisting to communicate progress to stakeholders

  • In-depth technical knowledge with the ability to advise on product architecture planning and execution

  • Regular review of codebase and PRs

  • Willing and able to jump in and write or adjust code

  • Oversee system maintenance and backend structure management

  • Abstract complex technical challenges and be able to communicate with stakeholders at all levels

  • Work with other team members to ensure we have a solid infrastructure, version control, data pipeline, test automation and CI/CD for front and backend applications

TECH STACK:

You will be learning and working with the team on:

  • Our backend APIs and services (node.js and express, AWS services including ECS, ELB, RDS, VPC, and Security configurations)

  • Native client applications (Android-Java, iOS-swift, Angular web application-JS & Typescript, and future JS Web App, possibly React)

  • Data ingestion and processing using third-party tools and services (CleverTap, Firebase, Branch, Google Services)

  • Maintain best practices with regard to version control using GitHub

  • Research, planning, and configuration of third-party tools and services to meet business and customer needs

  • Planning and execution of application integrations with client systems (Business clients, partnerships, etc.)

REQUIREMENTS:
  • 4+ years as a product owner/tech lead/scrum master/technical product owner

  • Track record of being hands-on, innovative, and efficient

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Efficient and thorough attention to detail and excellent organizational skills

  • Technically hands-on, can help diagnose issues or expand on details behind a bug report

  • Great at prioritizing and getting the job done

  • Strong technical skills and ability

  • Great leadership skills, especially with a technical team

  • Background in engineering and software development (mobile application experience and architecture a must)
